Green oak leaf lettuce

Oak leaf lettuce (ChicoriumIntybus) is one of the most appreciated lettuces within the variety of salads known as mezclum or bouquet. Besides providing a nice colour to dishes which goes from green to purple (although there is also oak leaf lettuce totally green) and a voluminous presentation due to the curly leaves, it offers a tender and slightly crunchy texture, as well as a delicate and sweet flavour.

The red oak leaf lettuce got its name due to its similarity to the leaves of the tree with the same name. Something curious is that this is not a variety of lettuce L. sativa, but it belongs to the species of the chicories (Chicoriumintybus).
