Iceberg Lettuce

Lettuce is a vegetable already known by the ancient Greeks and Romans. The iceberg variety is a type of lettuce with a round shape sprouts and with large, firm and crunchy leaves. The colour of this vegetable is green on the outside and closer to the trunk is whiter. The iceberg lettuce has high water content. The best season to consume this vegetable is in spring but, at present, it can be found throughout a whole year.

The iceberg lettuce is a basic component of the Mediterranean diet. Its high water content provides minimum calories. Most of the vitamins are found in the leaves on the external surface and its amount decreases approaching to the trunk. This vegetable contains many vitamins, minerals and fibre, making it one of the tastiest nutrients.
