Kumato tomato, also called black tomato, is a fruit of research and mixture of different varieties using conventional and natural methods. It is not considered a transgenic tomato. Mainly differs from other varieties by its dark green almost black colour, its sweet and intense flavour and its rounded shape.
Another attribute of this tomato type is that it ripens from the inside, so that its outer peel remains crunchier even in the ripeness phase. This makes them ideal for cutting into thin slices or bigger chunks for salads.
Their ideal ripeness phase is when they take a reddish brown colour and green tones around the stalk.
